Is Skip Hire the Right Choice for Your Office Clearout

Let’s face it – office clearouts are a pain. I’ve lost count of how many local business owners have told me they’ve been putting off the big clean because it just seems too daunting.

Last month, Nick from the accountancy firm down the road was telling me how they’d been hoarding old furniture since 2018 because nobody could face sorting it all out!

Whether you’re moving offices, having a refresh, or just finally tackling that room everyone pretends doesn’t exist, we’re here to help make it painless.

Table of Contents

What Does an Office Clearout Involve?

Office clearouts can vary in scale, but typically include:

  • Disposing of old desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and other bulky furniture
  • Recycling outdated computers, monitors, printers, and electronics
  • Shredding or discarding old paperwork and files
  • Removing broken fixtures, office décor, or general rubbish

Handling this waste can be time-consuming and costly—unless you have the right solution.

Why Consider Skip Hire for an Office Clearout?

Skip hire offers a fast, hassle-free, and cost-effective way to deal with large volumes of office waste. Here’s why it makes sense:

✅ Convenience

We deliver the skip directly to your office and collect it when you’re done. No repeated trips to the local tip or waiting for council collection.

✅ Versatility

Skips come in a range of sizes, so whether you’re clearing a single office or an entire building, there’s an option to suit your needs.

✅ Compliance & Sustainability

At Skip Hire Team, we dispose of your waste legally and responsibly, aiming to recycle as much as possible and minimise landfill.

✅ Time-Saving

With a skip on-site, your team can dispose of items immediately—no stockpiling or delays.

Whether you’re clearing out an office in a busy city like London or a growing town like Maidstone, having a reliable skip hire service on hand makes the whole process quicker and easier.

What Size Skip Do You Need for an Office Clearout?

This is probably the question I get asked most often. Here’s my honest advice after years of helping local businesses:

  • 4 yard skip size: Perfect if you’re just clearing a single small office or reception area. About the size of a small car.
  • 6 yard skip size: Our most popular size for office clearouts. Handles a decent amount of furniture and equipment from a small to medium office without taking up half your car park.
  • 8 yard skip hire: When you’ve got several rooms to clear or lots of bulky furniture. This is what the solicitors on Castle Street needed when they cleared three floors last autumn- similar to a client we worked with recently in Dartford, who filled an 8 yard skip in record time during their renovation.
  • 12 yard skip hire: The big boy. For when you’re gutting an entire office building or have years of accumulated stuff to shift.

If you’re still scratching your head about what size you need, give me a call. Much better to chat through what you’re clearing than end up with something too small.

What Can You Put in a Skip?

You can dispose of:

  • Office furniture (desks, chairs, shelving)
  • Electrical items (WEEE waste)
  • Paper waste and cardboard
  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Plastics and packaging

Note: Some items like hazardous materials, fluorescent tubes, or batteries may need special handling—get in touch to learn more.

Tips for a Smooth Office Clearout with Skip Hire

  • Plan ahead: Schedule your skip hire in advance to align with your clearout day(s).
  • Assign a team: Get everyone involved, put on some music, order in lunch. The marketing agency on Park Lane actually had a “demolition party” when they ripped out their old office kitchen—an idea borrowed from a similar clearout in Birmingham last spring, which turned out to be surprisingly fun.
  • Separate recyclables: Helps reduce environmental impact and saves space.
  • Consider timing: If you’re in a city centre, you might need a permit—don’t worry, we can help arrange it.

Questions We Get Asked All The Time

Can we throw old computers and printers in?

Yes, absolutely. Just make sure there’s nothing left on them you need – we’ve had a panicked call or two about lost data! We’ll make sure they get properly recycled.

Our office is on the high street – can we still have a skip?

Usually, yes. You’ll need a permit for the skip if it’s going on the pavement or road, but we sort all that out for you. We’ve put skips outside plenty of high street premises.

How long can we keep it?

Normally up to two weeks, but we’re flexible. The boutique on Church Street kept theirs for three weeks during their big refurb last year – just let us know what you need.

Can we fill it right to the top?

Safety-wise, we need to keep everything level with the top of the skip so nothing falls off when we’re transporting it. That said, you can get a surprising amount in if you pack it carefully!

How much does it cost to hire a skip for an office clearout?

Skip hire prices vary depending on the size, location, and duration. For the most accurate and competitive quote, contact us directly or request a quote online.

Can you deliver this Friday? We’ve just decided to clear out!

If you catch us early enough in the day, we can often do same-day or next-day delivery. Just give us a ring as soon as you can, and we’ll do our best to help you out.
