Environmental Policy

Updated: [August 2025]
Applies to: Skip Hire Team operations, drivers, partners, and suppliers across the UK.

We keep waste out of landfill wherever possible, follow the waste hierarchy, and only use licensed carriers and facilities. This policy explains how we handle waste safely, legally, and responsibly.

Our commitments

  • Compliance first: We follow UK waste law and guidance and only work with licensed carriers, transfer stations, and disposal sites.
  • Waste hierarchy: Prevent → Reuse → Recycle → Recover → Dispose (last resort).
  • High diversion: We prioritise reuse and recycling at our partner facilities and keep landfill to a minimum.
  • Transparency: We provide waste documentation (WTNs/consignment notes) and will share evidence of where your waste goes on request.
  • Continuous improvement: We review this policy annually and update targets, partners, and processes.

How we handle your waste (duty of care)

  • Environment Agency registration: We are an Upper Tier Waste Broker (CBDU596771). You can verify our status on the Environment Agency Public Register.
  • Licensed carriers and sites: We arrange collections only through licensed waste carriers and deliver to permitted transfer stations/MRFs or other lawful facilities.

Documentation:

  • Non-hazardous: We issue Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs) and keep them for at least 2 years.
  • Hazardous: We use consignment notes and keep records for at least 3 years (longer where required by permit).
Audit trail: We maintain clear records from collection to final treatment and share them with regulators or customers on request.

Audit trail: We maintain clear records from collection to final treatment and share them with regulators or customers on request.

What we accept (and what we don’t)

  • Allowed (typical): general household/office waste, wood, metals, plastics, cardboard, furniture, small amounts of soil/brick/rubble (size-dependent).
  • Not allowed in general skips: asbestos, chemicals/solvents/paints/liquids, gas cylinders, batteries, tyres, WEEE (fridges, freezers, TVs/monitors, other electricals), clinical/medical waste.
  • Plasterboard/gypsum: only if separated from other waste (ask support before booking).
  • If you have prohibited or hazardous items, contact us for a compliant collection route.

Skip sizes, weight limits, and access

  • Heavy waste limit: 6-yard is the largest size suitable for dense inert waste (soil, hardcore, rubble). 8yd and 12-yard skips are for light/bulky waste only.
  • Access: Typical lorries need 2.8 to 3.0m clear width and 3.5 to 4.0m overhead clearance.
  • Driveways: Heavy loads can mark tarmac or block paving—use timber boards. We’re not liable for surface damage when you request off-road placement.
  • Overfilling: Waste must not exceed the top rails; overweight or unsafe loads will be refused.

Recycling & disposal

  • Loads go to licensed MRFs/transfer stations for sorting and recovery.
  • We prioritise reuse and recycling; disposal is a last resort.

Spill prevention & response

  • Vehicles and sites carry spill kits; any spill is contained and managed immediately.
  • Contaminated materials are treated as hazardous waste and documented with consignment notes.

Supplier standards

  • Partners must hold valid Waste Carrier registration and relevant environmental permits/exemptions.
  • Sites must provide weighbridge tickets and records on request and allow audits.

Customer responsibilities

  • Tell us if the skip will be on private land or a public road.
  • Do not place prohibited or hazardous items in general skips.
  • Keep waste within the rails; do not move a permitted on-road skip from its approved location.
