Why do skip hire prices vary?
Two customers hiring the same size skip may receive different prices. The container is only one part of the cost.
1. Delivery postcode
Skip prices reflect local disposal charges, transport distances, fuel costs, supplier availability and demand. Prices are often higher in parts of London and other busy urban areas, although the exact difference depends on the postcode.

2. Skip size
Larger skips normally cost more to deliver, collect and process. However, ordering the smallest available skip does not always save money.

Do not assume that an additional fee makes every waste type acceptable. Some materials cannot legally or safely be placed in a general skip.

4. Placement and permits
A skip placed entirely on suitable private land, such as a driveway, normally does not require a council skip permit.
If it needs to be placed on a public road, permission from the relevant highway authority will be required. Council charges, application times and permit periods vary by location. A separate parking suspension or dispensation may also be needed in a controlled parking bay.
A skip must not be placed on the pavement. The placement must not block pedestrians, neighbouring access or unsafe parts of the highway.

5. Hire period

6. Delivery access
The lorry needs enough room to approach, unload and collect the skip safely. Narrow roads, parked vehicles, low branches, overhead cables, gates, soft ground and tight corners can all cause problems.
Before booking, check that:
- The lorry can reach the proposed delivery point.
- There is enough room for the skip and the delivery vehicle.
- The surface is firm, level and suitable for the load.
- Gates, walls, trees and parked cars will not restrict access.
- The skip will not block the road, pavement or another property.
- Any required permit or parking arrangement will be in place.
If delivery or collection cannot be completed because the site is blocked or unsuitable, an additional charge may apply.
