New Year’s Eve parties are fantastic, aren’t they? The music, the laughter, the countdown to midnight – it’s all brilliant fun. But then January 1st rolls around, and you’re staring at what looks like a small disaster zone. Empty bottles everywhere, food containers scattered about, and enough party debris to make your head spin.
If you’ve hosted a big bash in Medway this year, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The cleanup can feel absolutely overwhelming, especially when you’re nursing a bit of a hangover! That’s where we come in at Medway Skip Hire Team. We make the whole mess disappear without you having to make countless trips to the tip.
Why Bother with a Skip for Party Cleanup?
Look, I get it – hiring a skip might seem like overkill for party waste. But hear me out.
It’s Just So Much Easier:
After spending hours getting ready for your party (and probably spending a fortune on drinks), the last thing you want is to spend your New Year’s Day stuffing bin bags and driving back and forth to the local recycling center. With a skip, you literally chuck everything in and forget about it.
Better for the Environment Too
We’re not just taking your rubbish and dumping it somewhere. Everything gets sorted properly, and we recycle whatever we can. It’s actually more environmentally friendly than you might think, especially compared to regular household bins that often end up in landfill.
Perfect for Those Awkward Items
You know what I mean – that decorative backdrop that seemed like such a good idea, the cardboard boxes from all those party supplies, maybe even some furniture that didn’t survive the night. Regular bins just can’t handle this stuff. Here’s how to dispose of old furniture with a skip.
Regular bins just can’t handle this stuff. Learn what can and can’t go in a skip to avoid surprises.
What Can Actually Go In? Most party waste is absolutely fine:
- All those glass bottles (and trust me, there are always more than you think)
- Food packaging, paper plates, plastic cups
- Decorations that have seen better days
- General party rubbish
- Cardboard from all those Amazon deliveries
Just don’t try putting in anything hazardous like old paint or batteries – we can’t take those.
Picking the Right Size Skip
This bit’s actually quite important because nobody wants to pay for a massive skip they don’t need, but equally, you don’t want to run out of space halfway through.
For a typical house party with maybe 10-15 people, a small 4 yard skip usually does the trick. Had a bigger crowd? Maybe 20-30 guests? You’re probably looking at a midi 6 yard skip or large 8-yard skip.
If you went all out – we’re talking about one of those parties where half the neighborhood showed up – then you might need a commercial 10 yard skip or large capacity 12-yard skip. And if you’re dealing with a proper event cleanup (maybe you hired a hall or had a marquee), the big 20-40 yard roll-on-roll-off skips are your best bet.
Still not sure? Give us a call. We’ve been doing this long enough to have a pretty good idea just from chatting about your event.

Making the Most of Your Skip
Here’s what I’d suggest to make the whole process as smooth as possible:
Get the Size Right First Time
Have a quick walk around and mentally tally up what you’re dealing with. It’s always better to go slightly bigger than you think you need – trust me on this one.
Think About Placement
Your driveway is ideal if you’ve got space. If you need to put it on the road, you’ll need a permit from the council, but we can sort that out for you. Just give us a heads up.
Sort As You Go
You don’t need to go mad with sorting, but it does help if you can separate recyclables from general waste. Makes everything more efficient and better for the environment.
Use It During the Party
Here’s a tip that not many people think of – if you’ve got the skip delivered before your party, encourage guests to use it throughout the night. Put up a little sign if you need to. It’ll save you loads of work later.
A Few Green Tips While We're At It
Since we’re talking about cleanup, why not make your next party a bit more eco-friendly from the start?
Try using proper plates and glasses instead of disposables where you can. I know it means more washing up, but it dramatically reduces waste. And if you’ve got loads of leftover food (there’s always too much food at parties), see if local charities or food banks can make use of it.

Getting Your Skip Sorted
The whole process is pretty straightforward:
- Work out what size you need (Prepare for delivery like a pro)
- Book it for delivery (before your party if you’re organized, after if you’re like most of us)
- Fill it up with all your party debris
- We collect it and sort out all the recycling
