Placement and Delivery Access Requirements

Checking the placement point before delivery helps prevent failed drop-offs and site damage.

Placement and Delivery Access Requirements

Clear straight-on approach line
Watch for cables and gutter eaves

Important Notice: Ground Protection & Subsurface Services
A loaded skip and delivery vehicle exert substantial point weight. Avoid shallow drains, inspection covers and fragile paving; use suitable protection where agreed.

Entrance & Gate Width Clearance

Ensure gates and entrance pillars provide enough width and a clear approach.

Overhead Clearance

Keep the drop area clear of low trees, cables and overhangs.

Street & Access Road Width

Allow room for a large delivery vehicle, including turning space.

Firm, Level Ground Surface

Use stable hardstanding and avoid soft grass, loose gravel or steep slopes.

Have Questions Before You Book?

Clear, practical answers covering skip sizing, permits, hire periods and material restrictions.

What size skip do I need for my project?

Choose by both volume and waste type. Smaller projects may suit a 4-yard skip, medium renovation work often suits 6 yard or 8 yard, and bulky lighter waste may need 10 yrd or 12 yard.

How long can I keep the skip on hire?

Standard hire includes up to 14 days. If your project needs more time, contact us and we'll arrange an extension.

Do I need a council permit to place a skip on the road?

Yes, if the skip will sit on a public road, pavement or highway, a council permit is required. If it's placed entirely on private land, such as a driveway, you usually won't need one. We can check and arrange this on your behalf.

What happens if the skip is filled above the rim?

Skips must be loaded to a level fill for safe transport. If a skip is overfilled above the rim, collection may be delayed or refused until the load is brought back to a safe level.

What materials and items are prohibited from skips?

Hazardous and controlled materials can't go in a skip — this includes asbestos, tyres, wet paint and solvents, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders, batteries, clinical waste, oil and fuels, fluorescent tubes, and food waste. See the waste compatibility guide above for the full breakdown.

How quickly can a skip be delivered to my postcode?

Same-day or next-day delivery is available in most areas, depending on order time and location. Enter your postcode in the booking journey to check live availability.

Can I put heavy soil, hardcore or concrete into 10 or 12 yard skips?

No. 10- and 12-yard skips are designed for bulky, lighter waste and shouldn't be loaded with heavy materials like soil, hardcore or concrete, as this can make them unsafe to collect. For heavy waste, a smaller skip (4, 6 or 8 yard) is the right choice — check with our team if you're not sure.
