The 8-yard is the classic “builders skip”. If you’re doing structural work, knocking walls down or ripping out a large bathroom/kitchen, this is usually the size you want. Specially designed for heavier materials, such as bricks, rubble, hardcore, and soil. You’ll get more volume for similar money.
8 yard skip is bigger and needs sensible access:
✔️ Enough driveway space for the skip itself
✔️ Room for the lorry to reverse in and lift safely
✔️ Solid, level ground
“Skip hire prices vary depending on several factors: Location, Rental Duration, Skip Size, Waste Type, Permits and Licenses, Delivery and Collection.”
It still has a maximum liftable weight. Important rules:
If you’re unsure how heavy your load will be, tell us when you get a quote. We’ll advise you.
Past 90 days booking data shows the average cost to hire 8 yard skip ranges between £260 and £330, depending on your location, waste type, permit needs, and hire duration. To know the exact cost, use our online booking tool.
We offer a standard hire period of 14 days. If you need to extend, extensions are available over the phone for £30 per day.
Our 8 yard skip is larger than a 4 or 6 yard skip, and the lorry that delivers it also needs space. If access is tight, please notify us before placing your order. Roughly 3m of clear width at the entrance so the vehicle can reverse in and lower the skip safely. Low trees, cables, arches or tight walls can block delivery.
For heavy waste like bricks, concrete and soil, yes, our 8 yard skip is cost-effective than booking two smaller skips and overloading them.
This skip is built for:
You can also include general mixed waste, but the main point of an 8-yard skip is that it can legally and safely take dense material that a smaller skip would struggle with.
You still cannot throw in:
Mattresses and upholstered items may incur extra disposal costs. You’ll receive a Waste Transfer Note with your booking, confirming that the waste is collected and handled by a licensed carrier, not fly-tipped. That protects you.
A permit is legally required if you plan to place a skip on a public road, pavement, or council-owned land. As part of our service, we can handle the permit application for you.
When booking, simply select where you’d like the skip placed. The fee will be automatically added if a permit is needed.
Permit Fees:
A 7-day permit ranges from £30 to £50, while a 14-day permit costs around £95 or more.
